our house is awesome

i would just like to say that our house this year is going to be amazing. on tuesday we had a house meeting which involved an hour-long discussion about our family portrait (to hang over the mantel, of course) and our family Christmas letter. i mean really, how you can beat a family portrait with matching pink polos?

and today we got rid of the random dresser and desk we’ve had behind our house for the past two months, and now we can fit all 6 of our cars in our mini parking lot behind our house, without parking anyone in. hurray. and cheri says that when it snows, we’re all going to get up at 6 a.m. and shovel the massive expanse of cement. double hurray.

and Meghan made us an adorable chore chart… so our house will always be clean and tidy. or something like that…

and now

FolderShare

For quite a while, I’ve had the annoying problem of using 2 (and really 3) computers – my desktop, my laptop, and my work computer. While this is great in theory – different machines for different purposes – it also is really annoying, because half the time the files I need are on the other computer, or I have two versions of the same paper I’ve been working on, and I can’t remember which one is more recent… you get the idea.

And now, the solution: FolderShare. This program runs in the background of all your computers, and you set up which folders you want it to sync. Anytime to make changes to a file on one computer, it automatically updates the version you have on your other computers. Brilliant. And it’s free. =) (thanks for the tip, Ben)

excitement, etc.

many things are currently occurring in my life:

  • I just accepted an internship in CIT’s Teaching & Learning team. I’m not really sure exactly what I’ll be doing, but basically I’ll be taking over some of my old boss’ responsibilities (!)
  • I just cleaned my floor. It’s amazingly clean.
  • My wrist hurts sometimes. I think I’m getting “repetitive stress injury” (not carpal tunnel)
  • I finished a very good book last night… La Sombra del Viento. I read it in Spanish but there’s an English translation, too (but I don’t know how good it is)
  • school starts 21 days from today. I’m looking forward to it (friends will be back, I like learning) but also kind of dreading it (I like summer, and this is my last year of college – which means after it’s done, the rest of my life starts)
  • we’re selling our house in Midland and buying one in Houston. but I will never be a Texan, even if I get cowboy boots.

Search engines are funny

Sometimes people wind up at my web site by very random methods. For example, 15 people in July have searched for some variation of “Kristen room” or “Kristen’s room” and wound up at this picture of Kristen’s room. And since I’m writing about Kristen’s room on here, probably even more people searching for Kristen’s room will get linked here from Google or some other search engine.

Other random searches that have brought people to my web site:
– DJ Cheri (I come up 1st on Google)
– lizard sculpture slideshows (7th)
– my ring is stuck (4th)
