FolderShare

For quite a while, I’ve had the annoying problem of using 2 (and really 3) computers – my desktop, my laptop, and my work computer. While this is great in theory – different machines for different purposes – it also is really annoying, because half the time the files I need are on the other computer, or I have two versions of the same paper I’ve been working on, and I can’t remember which one is more recent… you get the idea.

And now, the solution: FolderShare. This program runs in the background of all your computers, and you set up which folders you want it to sync. Anytime to make changes to a file on one computer, it automatically updates the version you have on your other computers. Brilliant. And it’s free. =) (thanks for the tip, Ben)

  1. But it doesn’t work in linux!  smile

For very good version controlling of files, especially when multiple people are going to be updating them, Subversion is a great tool.  Not quite as easy to get up and using, though.
