watch out

I don’t know what it is about where we live, but people get pulled over all the time in front of our house. Usually it’s on the other side of the street, heading east, but right now, there’s someone stopped directly in front of our house. I would say that I see people stopped on average twice a week. And that’s limited to the hours I’m home, which really isn’t all that much.

So my question is, what do all these people get pulled over for? Speeding? They’d have to be going pretty fast since almost everyone does 40 anyway. But it’s hard to get going too fast on Burton since there’s usually a lot of traffic and many stop lights. Expired plates? Just because the policeperson felt like it? The one that’s sitting out there right now probably wasn’t for speeding, because the guy had to get out of his car and is now sitting in the backseat of the squad car…

I’m just glad I haven’t been pulled over yet.

update: it’s now 6:30, and someone else just got pulled over…

black and white

We successfully hosted a Black and White birthday party for Jenny and me, complete with a highly entertaining game of charades that lasted for quite a long time. We had everyone write down 5 or so words on different slips of paper (some people wrote more…) and put them all in a bowl. We didn’t even bother to keep score or have teams, we just kept going around the circle drawing words and acting them out. Good times.

Christ is Risen!

He is risen, indeed.
Celebrating Easter at home with family and friends was a joyful time. And we decorated Easter eggs! See Easter pictures.

Oh. My. Goodness.

So my hard drive is almost full. Well, my documents drive is – 35 GB of old high school papers, Photoshop files, photos, and music. So I was browsing through to see if there was anything I could get rid of, and I came across the folder from my independent study my senior year of high school. My independent study was with my favorite teacher, Mrs. Nelsen, and basically it was an excuse to a) play around with Photoshop and web stuff; and b) work on our BPA web team project. I’m pretty amused by what I did back then. Some of it is actually pretty good. Some of it… bad. And some of it: simply amazing. Like this game that I made for our BPA site: The Streets of Oldsville

Update: Okay, I just can’t resist. You really should just see it all: Second semester Independent Study Portfolio (the first semester one isn’t nearly as entertaining)

Funny how some things don’t change – the title (up in the title bar of the browser) of my old portfolio site was “Emily Brondsema::Independent Study Portfolio” The title of my portfolio now is “Emily J. Brondsema :: Portfolio” All I’ve really done is add my middle initial and some spaces around the double colon…

The good & the bad

Bad news first:
Not only did it snow all day yesterday, but the snow actually stuck to the ground. So the view out my window this morning is such:

Good news:
While eating a bowl of raisin bran and rice krispies (the combination is quite lovely), I sat at my computer to bemoan the weather. But before I got there, I noticed an email from my professor telling us that he is ill today. While it’s not quite as great as those snow days in elementary school where my mom would find out early in the morning and just let us sleep in, it’s still pretty exciting because that class (3 hours, mind you) was my only class for the day! And since tomorrow is Good Friday… it’s the weekend!!
