If only I had a video camera to capture this – this rocket launches fast (the 3 pictures above were all taken within one second). Ryder built it out of PVC pipe and a 2 liter bottle for our church’s VBS program. The short story of how it works: slide a half-full 2 liter bottle on the end of a PVC pipe. Hook up a bike pump to the other end of the pipe. Pump until highly pressurized. Pull string to release bottle. Get wet. Over the 4th of July, we took it out on the river with Ryder’s family and had a blast (ha ha ha) with it.

A few weeks ago, my mom reminded me that I had some Halloween decorations here with me in Atlanta. So after pulling half the boxes out of the crawlspace in my bedroom, I found the bag containing the Halloween “puppets” I made in clay class sometime in elementary school. Say hello…

Then my dear friend Annalise came to visit while she was in town for a work conference. Visiting another mutual friend, we got to carve a pumpkin! Carving pumpkins is probably my favorite Halloween activity, besides eating candy corn, of course.

Even though the temperature reached well into the 90s (it must have, I was certainly sweltering…), Ryder and I ventured outside on a sunny Saturday to explore the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, which currently have a really cool “sculpture in motion” exhibit throughout the gardens. Most of the sculptures were moved by the breeze, some by human force, and one, by sound! The gardens also had, as you might expect, lots of pretty flowers. So, of course, we took lots of pictures.
